Code of Ethics
I agree to respect my fellow Montessorians and encourage a spirit of harmony in the Montessori community at large. I will not make slanderous statements against any other Montessori organization, school, parent, colleague, or teacher, and will conduct myself with honesty, fairness, tolerance, respect, and compassion.
I support UMA’s efforts to preserve the original tenets of the Montessori method as created by Dr. Montessori. My commitment, as a Montessorian, is to aid the child by:
- Cultivating the child’s natural desire to learn
- Developing the child’s own unique potential
- Guiding the child in becoming a confident, compassionate, and productive individual in society
I will be guided by these fundamental Montessori goals for each child:
- Freedom of choice
- A joy of learning
- Self discipline
- Ability to concentrate
- Attachment to reality
- Self confidence
- Enjoyment of quiet
- Love of order
- Positive reinforcement
- Appreciation of nature
- Respect
- Right to dignity
- Learning thru discovery
- Independence
Further, I pledge, as a world citizen, to work together towards a future in which every generation shares:
- A global bond
- Environmental responsibility
- Common goal for peace
I will not misrepresent the United Montessori Association in public discussion and keep my private views separate from the official policies of UMA.
